Ex-Liverpool defender John Arne Riise claims that Adam Lallana has surprised him the most this season.
The 28-year-old has played a major role in the club’s good start to the season, which currently has them level on points with Premier League leaders Manchester City.
Liverpool manger Jurgen Klopp has used Lallana in a midfield trio and he has linked up particularly well with Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson.
The central midfielder has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and supplying three assists.
Liverpool favourite Riise, who won the Champions League with the club in 2005, believes that Lallana has improved drastically and is becoming more involved in games.
“Adam is probably the one player that has surprised me and impressed me the most this year,” Riise told the Echo. “His fitness levels are as good as anyone in the league. He’s everywhere.
“I’ve always liked him but you can see now he is more involved in games he’s getting on the ball more. He’s creating more chances and scoring more goals.”
Liverpool completed the £25million signing of Lallana in 2014 after he impressed at Southampton.
The England international made a slow start to his Anfield career but has excelled this campaign under Klopp.
His high work rate matches perfectly the philosophy of the German manager and he has become a regular first team player.
