John Hartson is hoping for a “classic” Champions League encounter between Celtic and Manchester City on Wednesday night.

The Scottish champions will host the Premier League leaders at Parkhead in the Group C showdown.

Celtic are top of the Scottish Premiership but were annihilated 7-0 by Barcelona in their Champions League opener at Camp Nou a fortnight ago.

Pep Guardiola’s side are strong favourites ahead of Wednesday clash after their 100 per cent start to the season in all competitions, including victories in their opening six Premier League fixtures.

Ex-Celtic striker Hartson sent his best wishes to Brendan Rodgers’ team on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon as he indicated his wish of “another classic at Parkhead”.

Harton is a favourite among Celtic fans after a hugely successful spell at the club from 2001 to 2006.

He played in a number of memorable Champions League encounters at the club’s home stadium, which is renowned for its raucous and intimidating atmosphere for marquee occasions.

In other Celtic news, one of the team’s defenders is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a thigh injury.
