Jose Fonte has shared that he is looking forward to playing alongside fellow defenders James Collins and Winston Reid at West Ham.
The 33-year-old centre-back completed a move to east London in January from Premier League rivals Southampton after handing in a transfer request at the club.
Fonte has since featured three times for the Hammers following his £8million transfer and the experienced player has told of how he is excited to get to know both Reid and Collins better.
“He (Reid) has been a great player and professional, proven throughout the years,” Fonte said to Football.London.
“When you play alongside good players, it is easy to adapt but relationships take games, but we are both experienced, I know his strengths and with a few more games the partnership can only get better. I look forward to playing with him but also with James Collins, who is a great defender. We have great options, I am just trying to do my best.”
Fonte had been at Southampton for seven years following a move from Crystal Palace in the January 2010 window.
He was a key figure in their rise from League One and was made captain after Adam Lallana left in 2014.
He has also enjoyed some success at international level in the latter stages of his career and he was an important part of Portugal’s Euro 2016 winning team last summer.
The experienced man will now be looking to continue that at West Ham, who are finally starting to turnaround their form following a poor start to the campaign as they sit in 10th place.
The Hammers will face Watford next in 10 days time and Fonte will be looking to start his fourth consecutive league match against the Hornets.
In other West Ham news, this senior duo will be available for the Hammers’ clash against Watford.
