Leeds new midfield signing will be joining up with the Under-21 squad, confirmed a reliable journalist.

Radio Yorkshire journalist and presenter Joe Rawson confirmed on his personal Twitter account on Monday that the Whites could expect an announcement of an unnamed midfielder within 24 hours, piquing the interest of fans of the Elland Road club.

However, just a few hours later, Rawson revealed that the midfielder will be joining up with the Leeds Under-21s.

The 72 had previously reported that 20-year-old Conor Shaughnessy was on trial at Leeds, so his name could be one option.

Shaughnessy scored a wonder goal from 25 yards to put Leeds 1-0 up against Tadcaster Albion in a match they eventually won 2-0.

The youngster is a free agent following his release from Reading in the summer.

The Irish midfielder has attracted other clubs this summer and he also been on trial with League One outfit Sheffield United, playing in their 5-0 victory over Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Manager Garry Monk has been actively looking for new midfield players this summer, with Mathieu Flamini, Andrea Lazzari and Leon Osman all being linked to an Elland Road move.

Monk has been successful in the transfer market so far already, with the signings of Rob Green, Hadi Sacko, Marcus Antonsson, Kyle Bartley, Kemar Roofe and Matt Grimes.

In other Leeds transfer news,  Tottenham star Alex Pritchard is high on the shortlist of the Whites.
