Jurgen Klopp advised Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan on a move to English football in the summer.
The German completed a move to the Etihad Stadium and revealed that a discussion with Liverpool manager Klopp convinced him to move to Etihad Stadium.
The 25-year-old has made an impressive start under Pep Guardiola, scoring one goal and providing an assist in his first two appearances.
Klopp worked with Gundogan at Borussia Dortmund and they won the German double together in the 2011-12 season.
The German international has explained that positive talks with Klopp helped him decide to move to City.
“To be honest I asked his advice, if the Premier League was the right thing for me,” he told Sport Bild magazine, as quoted by the Mail. “He said ‘yes’ and believed I would feel very well here and that the playing style would be perfect for me. It was good to have my impressions confirmed.”
Gundogan made 157 appearances at Dortmund, scoring 15 goals and supplying 21 assists from central midfield.
He is now experiencing his first taste of football outside of the German leagues and will hope to achieve success at City.
Guardiola has had huge success since taking charge and has won his first eight competitive matches in charge.
Klopp will have to wait until New Year’s Eve for a reunion with Gundogan when Liverpool host City at Anfield.
