Carlo Ancelotti rejected the Liverpool job before it was offered to Jurgen Klopp, according to Harry Redknapp.

The former Tottenham manager claimed today that he had heard it from “good sources” that Ancelotti turned the Merseysiders down before they turned to Klopp.

The Merseyside outfit have publicly denied that they approached Ancelotti, but well-connected Redknapp insists that was not the case.

“I have heard from good sources that he [Ancelotti] was offered the Liverpool job,” the former Tottenham, QPR, Southampton, Portsmouth and West Ham boss told Talksport. “They spoke to him at some stage. I don’t think [he wanted it].”

Klopp’s arrival has been greeted with almost universal acclaim by Liverpool supporters and Redknapp has admitted that he is an admirer of the former Borussia Dortmund manager.

“I do like the look of Klopp, he’s a good appointment,” said Redknapp. “He’s looks bright, with great enthusiasm and he looks like he could be a really good addition to the Premier League. I’m looking forward to watching Liverpool play over the next few years.”
