Dutch legend Wim Kieft has urged Vincent Janssen to join Tottenham this summer and make Harry Kane “nervous”.
Spurs are in the market for at least one new striker this summer and have been heavily linked with Holland striker Jansen from Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar.
Kane carried the Tottenham attack virtually single handed in the recent domestic season and reinforcements are needed as the club prepare for Champions League football next season.
Kieft – who was capped 42 times by Holland and was a prolific scorer for Ajax and PSV Eindhoven, believes Janssen should take on the challenge of putting pressure on Kane at White Hart Lane.
“If Janssen has to choose between Ajax and Tottenham, he must go to London,” Kieft told Holland newspaper De Telegraaf.
“Yes there is Harry Kane. What could be better to try without any pressure as number 12 or 13 to make the great Kane nervous?
“Regardless of the adventure and the financial gains, Janssen can only get better by training with better players every day.”
Spurs reportedly held discussions with the 21-year old in London last week and a deal looks increasingly likely as Mauricio Pochettino steps up plans to strengthen the team that finished third in the Premier League this season.
Janssen was the top scorer in the Dutch League this season with 27 goals in 34 games, and struck 32 times in 49 matches in all competitions.
As revealed by Football Insider, Tottenham are also closely monitoring Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi.
In other Tottenham news, the club are making fresh progress in their bid to sign one of their key summer targets.
