Everton fans have reacted with mixed emotions after Ross Barkley was left out of the England squad by Sam Allardyce.

New boss Allardyce has named his first squad as England manager, as the nation prepare to take on Slovakia in a World Cup Qualifier.

Since making his senior debut aged just 17, the attacking midfielder has played 144 times for Everton, scoring 22 goals and adding a further 20 assists.

His form for Everton earned him a call-up to the England side and he has now played 22 times for his country, but he was left on the bench by Roy Hodgson for all four games as the national side failed to reach the Euro 2016 quarter-finals this summer.

Twitter has understandable reacted with shock to the omission of a player who is largely regarded as one of the country’s most prized and talented assets.

That said, some Everton fans are happy that the attacking midfielder will be able to focus on playing for the club.
