Jurgen Klopp has set his sights on striker Gregoire Defrel after sending a scout to track his progress, according to a report.
The Sun claims that Klopp is keen to bring in the Sassuolo forward to complete with current number one Daniel Sturridge.
Defrel, 25, has scored 39 goals and provided 22 assists in 218 matches throughout his career.
If Defrel opted to join the Reds he would link up with current attacking options Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Sturridge at Anfield.
Klopp offloaded both Christian Benteke and Mario Balotelli this summer and is believed to be on the look-out for new striking options.
Defrel still has four years remaining on his current deal in Italy but could be tempted by a move to the Premier League.
The left-footed Frenchman has strong technical ability, a quick turn of pace and is capable as playing as a centre-forward or operating as a wide player on either flank.
The Merseysiders have enjoyed a strong start to their domestic campaign this season having already beaten Chelsea, Arsenal and Leicester.
Liverpool currently sit sixth in England’s top-flight after picking up 10 points from their first five games.
In other Liverpool transfer news, the Reds and Arsenal are ready to make a move for Manchester United defender Phil Jones in January, according to a report.
