Jonathan Kodjia is convinced Aston Villa will be “unstoppable” when the new signings gel with the established players.

Villa have begun the season slowly despite spending £50million on new players during the transfer window.

They are 18th in the Championship as they go into Saturday’s match against Newcastle, who are also recovering from relegation from the Premier League.

Villa paid Bristol City £11million in August to sign the striker but the fee could rise to £15million, depending on achievements; a record for England’s second tier.

“We know that the fans expect wins and we need that, too, so that we can be a bit happier in training,” Kodjia said, as quoted by the Guardian. “We have a lot of new players and all we need is time for everyone to gel.

“We have players with immense qualities and a manager who has won the Champions League, and knows football very well.

“We have everything going for us. It’s just about fine-tuning details, getting a bit more luck and, also, becoming more killer in front of goal. Once we’ve done that, I don’t think anyone will be able to stop us. People are going to be pleasantly surprised.”

Kodjia scored 20 goals in all competitions for Bristol City last season and has netted once in the three games that he has played for Roberto Di Matteo’s team.

In other Aston Villa news, this is the expected starting XI Di Matteo will field against Newcastle on Saturday.
