Ronald Koeman has hinted that Everton may be in the market for Joe Hart, following the recent England number one’s Manchester City problems.
Hart could be set to leave the Etihad this summer, with the BBC Sport website one of numerous media outlets who have reported that he is ready to leave Etihad Stadium after being dropped for both of their games this season.
The shot-stopper has been on the bench for both of City’s games this season and, while Koeman refused to comment directly on the link, he did not deny interest as he said that Everton need three goalkeepers.
“What I don’t like is to talk about rumours‚” Koeman said, as quoted by The Guardian, “And that applies for the next two weeks. So many players are linked to Everton, and today it’s Joe Hart, but I prefer not to talk about players under contract.
“What I can say though is that you are always looking for players that will make a stronger squad than we have. One of our jobs is to improve the team and if we don’t have that type of player we will sign that player.
“We need three goalkeepers. We have Joel [Robles], we have Maarten [Stekelenburg] and we have a young goalkeeper. We don’t like to stop the development of our young players. This is the decision we need to make.”
New Toffees keeper Maarten Stekelenburg put in a great performance on his Everton debut, as he made a series of fine stops to keep Spurs at bay and help secure a 1-1 draw.
The Merseyside club also have the services of Premier League-tested Robles at their disposal, but their current third choice is the untested 19-year-old Mateusz Hewelt.
Hart has two Premier League medals to his name and has made over 250 Premier League appearances in total. He has also won the Golden Glove an impressive four times, most recently in the 2014/15 season.
