Barcelona midfielder Cristian Tello would prefer a return to the Italian league despite strong interest from a number of Premier League clubs led by Tottenham, according to a report.
His agent Joseph Maria Orotbig had reportedly flown to London on Tuesday for talks about a potential move to White Hart Lane.
Spanish publication Sport report that Tello would prefer a move to Fiorentina after spending a period on loan there last season.
But it saud understood that Fiorentina are unwilling to pay the fee of £6.75million that Barcelona want to recoup.
This could open the door to one of his Premier League suitors, who include Liverpool and Swansea in addition to Spurs.
Jurgen Klopp offered Tello a chance to join him at Anfield earlier this month but the player rejected the opportunity.
Tello is under contract with the La Liga champions until 2018, but now feels it is time to move on permanently after being unable to produce any kind of consistency at the Camp Nou.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at Serie A side Fiorentina, making 15 appearances for La Viola and scoring two goals.
The 24-year-old has also had a loan spell with Porto, where he scored 10 goals in 57 matches.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen to add some European experience to his squad as they prepare for their second season in the Champions League, target Tello has already made 21 career appearances in the competition.
In other Tottenham transfer news, the club have agreed terms with a highly rated young midfielder.
