Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier has stated that Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana caused him the most pain by leaving Southampton.
The now 47-year-0ld spent 17 years at the south coast and still holds a big affinity with the Hampshire side.
The Reds have poached a number of players from Southampton over the past few years with Mane, Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne all quitting St Marys for Anfield.
However, Le Tissier has picked out the attacking pair who most disappointed him in leaving his former club.
“As much as it hurts me, I’d have to go with Mane as well,” said Le Tissier to the Sky Sports website when picking his best signing of the summer. “He has been outstanding in his first few games at Liverpool.
“I think him and Adam Lallana were the two most painful to lose as I enjoyed watching them. They’re the guys that get you on the edge of your seat and are who the fans pay the money to watch.
“I think if he finds the consistency that was missing at times at Southampton, and he did have periods where he didn’t look particularly interested, then he certainly gives Liverpool a better chance of winning the league.”
The attacking pair have starred for Liverpool in their impressive start to the new campaign, scoring six goals each.
The Reds are currently sat in fourth place in the Premier League and two points behind league leaders Manchester City with 16 points from seven fixtures.
They have also impressed on the scoring front with 18 goals and face a difficult tie against fierce rivals Manchester United after the international break.
In other Liverpool team news, Phil Thompson has claimed that Mane has transformed the Reds side following his summer move from Southampton.
