Leading West Midlands journalist, Mat Kendrick has claimed the Aston Villa players are nowhere near as tired as the fans.
Steve Bruce’s first game in charge at Villa Park was an eye-opener into the troubles he faces as the new manager, writes Kendrick in his latest comment piece for the Birmingham Mail.
Following Villa’s 1-1 draw against Wolves on Saturday, Bruce raised concerns about the fitness of his players, claiming some of the team ‘could be in better condition.’
However, Kendrick has claimed that Villa fans are feeling even more weary after watching their side succumb to defeat after defeat.
And Kendrick gave a damning report of the situation Villa currently find themselves in, in his recent comment piece.
“Bruce will have little sympathy for this under-achieving squad as he strives to mould them from a bunch of jaded individuals into a competitive, wining Championship team,” he wrote.
“If the players think they are weary, then think how the supporters feel after just four victories in 52 league matches.
“It is the unrelenting demands of the Championship that Bruce knows all about. Regrettably, he will barely have chance to do a head count let alone inject any energy into their legs before they visit the Madejski Stadium for the next test.”
Since starting life in the Championship, following relegation from the top flight last season, they have managed to collect just 11 points.
It’s been another poor start to the season and fans were restless as they put up banners claiming players weren’t fit to wear the shirt of Aston Villa against Preston North End.
In the latest Aston Villa news, the club are preparing to raid a Premier League side for two top stars.
