Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen admits he is not interested in signing any of his former players this summer.

The 44-year-old was officially unveiled as the new head coach at Elland Road on Monday afternoon, having been named as the successor to Garry Monk at the end of last week.

Christiansen arrives at the Championship club following a one-year spell in charge at Cypriot outfit APOEL, where he lead them to the first division title and the last-16 of the Europa League

He also enjoyed a spell in the dugout at Cypriot rivals AEK Larnaca between June 2014 and April 2016, but he insists he will not be returning to either of his former clubs for potential new recruits.

His transfer revelation suggests that he will be looking everywhere but at Larnaca and APOEL when he conducts his transfer business this summer.

He said, as quoted by the BBC Radio Leeds’ West Yorkshire Sport Twitter account: “There’s no players from my previous teams that we are interested in.”

Christiansen will be expected to put his own stamp on the first-team squad at Elland Road in the coming months, be he has offered Leeds fans an early insight as to where he might be looking to identify his potential targets.

The Daily Mail claim that the new Leeds chief could return to Cyprus to sign former England Under-21 striker Matt Derbyshire, whom he tried to sign for APOEL.

Derbyshire was in red hot form for rivals Omonia Nicosia last season, netting 26 goals from 37 appearances in all competitions, and Leeds are likely to consider a move for a new goalscorer to complement current star Chris Wood.

But as the 31-year-old has not previously played under Christiansen, the door appears to have been left open for Leeds to pursue a deal for the striker, after the manager’s recent transfer revelation.

In other Leeds United transfer news, the club have reportedly received enquiries from Premier League clubs for this first-team player.
