Liam Bridcutt and Pablo Hernandez will miss Leeds’ Championship showdown against Aston Villa on Saturday, according to a report.

The Yorkshire Evening Post claim the senior duo are set to once again be absent this weekend as they continue their spells on the sidelines.

It is said that Leeds’ medical staff have already ruled skipper Bridcutt and one-time Spain international Hernandez out of the Elland Road clash, which is a tea-time kick-off.

But talisman Pontus Jansson is expected to be passed fit after missing Tuesday night’s 2-0 League Cup defeat to Liverpool at Anfield due to an illness.

Bridcutt, who was appointed club captain after signing a permanent deal with the Yorkshire giants in the summer, has not played since breaking his foot in September.

The midfield anchorman, who spent last season on loan at Elland Road, has made only four appearances this season.

Hernandez was an integral member of the side before suffering a hamstring injury in the 3-2 league win over Norwich before the recent international break.

He has missed the last three matches – against Newcastle, Rotherham and Liverpool – and it has not yet known when he will return.

Leeds take on in-form Villa as they aim to build on a fine sequence of results that has lifted them to fifth place in the Championship table, their highest position for nearly three years.

The Midlands giants are also riding high after being transformed by the appointment of Steve Bruce as their new manager last month.

Bruce has guided the team to four wins and three draws from his seven matches at the helm, lifting them to seventh in the table.
