Caleb Ekuban led the Leeds United attack in the absence of exit-bound Chris Wood in their 2-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday evening – and fans took to Twitter to praise the summer signing.

Wood pulled out of the Stadium of Light fixture shortly beforehand as he puts the finishing touches to a transfer to Premier League club Burnley.

Manager Thomas Christiansen reacted to the absence of the Championship’s top scorer in 2016-17 by handing a full league debut Ekuban, who joined from Italian club Chievo earlier in the window.

The 23-year-old did not get on the scoresheet but showed some promising signs before pulling up with what appeared to be a hamstring injury after 62 minutes.

This meant that Leeds played without an orthodox front man for the final third of the fixture but were still able to secure what was a notable win through goals from Samu Saiz and Stuart Dallas.

The Elland Road faithful took to social media in their droves to deliver their verdicts on the performance of Ekuban.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Leeds are now unbeaten from the opening four league matches of the season, securing two away wins and two home draws.

In the latest Leeds United news, another senior player is set to follow Chris Wood out of the exit door next week.
