Leeds fans have declared their love for Swedish striker Marcus Antonsson on Twitter after his first league goal helped Leeds pick up their first three points of the season.
The Whites defied the odds by producing a spectacular performance to beat arch-enemies Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 at Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon.
The former Kalmar striker rose highest to head home a cross from fellow new signing Hadi Sacko after 63 minutes to break the deadlock.
Target-man Chris Wood restoreed himself as the club’s top-scorer with a close-range finish with five minutes remaining.
Antonsson’s first league goal will come as a huge sigh of relief for Monk, who has come under increasing pressure following a dismal start to the campaign which has included two losses, a last-gasp draw to Fulham and a penalty shootout win against League One minnows Fleetwood.
The striker, who was taken off just six minutes later after scoring the all-important strike, has spoken of his need to prove himself to the Yorkshire side’s fanbase and believes scoring goals is the perfect way to do that.
Leeds fans have already taken to their number 10, expressing their delight on Twitter following the goal.
Here are a selection of their messages:

Antonsson – was purchased for an undisclosed fee, which or may not be less than Berbatov once cost, and scores more goals #lufc

Antonsson put pen to paper at Elland Road earlier this summer in a deal worth £2million, becoming Monk’s first signing as Leeds boss and has hit the ground running in his first four appearances.
