Alex Mowatt returned to the Leeds team in their 1-0 win over Blackburn on Tuesday night – and fans destroyed him on Twitter for his performance.

Garry Monk’s team beat Blackburn for the second time in a week to secure a third consecutive victory and clinch a place in the last-16 of the EFL Cup.

A paltry crowd of 8,488 were in attendance at Elland Road to witness Monk’s side maintain their run of improved results.

The performance of Mowatt was one talking point, and the general consensus was that the Leeds academy graduate, 21, had failed to grasp his opportunity in a new position.

With first-choice wide players Hadi Sacko and Stuart Dallas rested, Mowatt started on the right flank and Kemar Roofe on the left.

Supporters took to social media in the aftermath of the match to criticise the club’s 2014-15 player of the year, with most saying Mowatt should not be in the team that faces Ipswich in the league on Saturday.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

In other Leeds news, Monk’s latest squad selection could spell the end of the careers of three players.
