Gaetano Berardi made his first Leeds appearance since the opening day of the season – and fans took to Twitter to commend his display.
The Switzerland played the entire 120 minutes of the thrilling League Cup win over Norwich on Tuesday night.
Berardi slotted in at left-back in place of the rested Charlie Taylor, with Lewie Coyle standing in at right-back for first-choice Luke Ayling.
In a sensational cup tie, Leeds twice came from a goal behind to secure a 2-2 draw after extra time of the all-Championship clash at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
The shootout victory for Monk’s side builds on the progress they have made in the Championship, where they are place in 10th and are now just three points adrift of the play-off positions.
Leeds supporters took to social media to pay tribute to the durability of Berardi, who was given his first action suffering a hamstring injury in the opening-day 3-0 defeat to QPR.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
One last note, how beautiful was it to see Berardi back on that pitch? #lufc
