Alex Mowatt missed a great chance to score against Norwich – and the Leeds supporters were furious on Twitter with the blunder.

Leeds completed a dramatic victory against Norwich in the EFL Cup fourth-round, with the match being decided in a penalty shoot-out.

Alex Pritchard and Marcus Antonsson scored a goal each in 90 minutes to send the tie to extra-time, although the Whites had a great chance to win it in normal time.

Mowatt, 21, had a great opportunity to put Leeds 2-1 up but the attacker midfielder fluffed his line.

The ball fell to the youngster inside the penalty area and he managed to kick the ball over, with half of the goal left open by the scrambling goalkeeper.

The Canaries took the lead in extra-time through a Nelson Oliveira header, but forward Chris Wood sent the game to penalties with his ninth goal of the season in all competitions.

Goalkeeper Marco Silvestri saved three penalties in the shootout and allowed Ronaldo Viera to score the winner, and book Leeds’ place in the quarter-finals.

Leeds supporters mocked Mowatt on Twitter for his dreadful miss and thankfully for him his team-mates managed to secure the win.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Mowatt has broken into the first team in the last few season after developing through the club’s academy.

The Englishman has now made 119 senior appearances for the Whites, scoring 12 goals and supplying 12 assists.

He has completed 90 minutes in just one of his 14 appearances this season and has found himself fighting for a starting position in Garry Monk’s side.

In other Leeds team news, the club’s supporters reacted on Twitter to Souleymane Doukara’s inclusion against Norwich.
