Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to voice their excitement amid speculation that the club are interested in signing Joey Barton.

The Herald Scotland has reported that Barton has agreed a pay-off deal with Rangers, allowing him to join another club in January.

It is said English Championship outfit Leeds are now considering making a move for the one-time capped England international.

Manager Garry Monk has lifted the Yorkshire club up to sixth in the league, the first time they have done so since December 2013.

The former Swansea boss now wants Barton to assist in Leeds’ bid for promotion to the Premier League.

Barton has had a career rife with controversy, yet many Leeds fans appear willing to welcome him to the club with open arms.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

It is said that Barton, 34, was offered around £250,000 to walk away from his £18,000-a-week deal at Ibrox, and he agreed to take it on Tuesday night.

A doctor had earlier stated that Barton was unfit to work due to stress.

In other Leeds news, much-berated club owner Massimo Cellino wants to leave the club and return to his Italian roots.
