Leeds fans are delighted on Twitter to see academy product Lewie Coyle has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

The 21-year-old’s previous deal was set to run out at the end of the season, as doubts began to circulate over the future of the right back.

However, manager Garry Monk has opted to tie down the future of the highly-rated defender, with Coyle now set to remain with his boyhood club until 2019 after impressing in the Yorkshire giants’ EFL Cup run.

Despite being third choice at right back, Coyle is expected to be a large part of Leeds’ immediate future as another example of the former Champions League side’s impressive youth academy.

Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter to the young defender putting pen to paper on a new deal, with many believing that he deserves a longer stay after proving his worth on the right side of Leeds’ defence.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Leeds’ number 31 has struggled to hold down a regular place in Monk’s starting 11, with both Berardi and new signing Luke Ayling considered ahead of him in the pecking order.

However, the defender is set to prolong his stay with his boyhood club after making a total of 17 appearances in all competitions since his debut in December 2015.

In other Leeds news, this is the expected lineup to face Norwich on Saturday.
