Kalvin Phillips played 90 minutes for Leeds in their 1-0 victory over Blackburn on Tuesday night – and fans praised his performance on Twitter.

The 20-year-old was handed a starting role for the EFL Cup third-round tie and he delivered a strong display in midfield.

Chris Wood scored an 85h minute winner to secure Leeds a place in the next round of the competition.

Phillips made his 10th appearance of the new season but this was only his fourth start under Garry Monk.

The Leeds graduate starred alongside new signing Eunan O’Kane and Ronaldo Viera in the heart of midfield.

The club’s supporters took to Twitter to applaud the performance of Phillips and believe he is developing well at Elland Road.

Leeds have enjoyed a recent string of results following a 1-0 defeat to Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield.

Monk’s side achieved consecutive league victories against Cardiff and Blackburn to see them steer away from the relegation places, before defeating the latter again in the cup meeting.

The Whites will learn their opponents for the next round on Wednesday night and could be handed a reasonable tie with several Championship teams already in the pot.

Leeds host Ipswich at Elland Road on Saturday and will hope to continue their good form.
