Leeds fans are currently split on Twitter after a report named the club as interested in Middlesbrough forward David Nugent.

The Northern Echo claimed on Wednesday afternoon that the 31-year-old was interesting the Yorkshire giants alongside Sheffield Wednesday and Preston.

The one-time capped England international has a solid goal-scoring record in England’s second tier with 103 goals in 306 appearances.

However, his 14 goals in 97 Premier League encounters reads a lot worse.

Meanwhile, Leeds are currently sat in fifth place in the Championship table and with top flight aspirations many supporters on social media believe the club should show more ambition in their targets.

Others believe that the club only requires a backup striker behind star Chris Wood and that Nugent would provide good depth to the team.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The experienced Nugent has won promotion from the Championship twice himself, helping Leicester to the title in 2014, while finishing as a runner-up with Boro earlier this year.

However, with just five appearances to his name for Aitor Karanka’s side this season he may be allowed to leave in January.

Leeds are currently playing Souleymane Doukara in the lone forward position with Chris Wood injured and Marcus Antonsson not doing enough for a place in the team.

This could mean that Garry Monk is looking to bring in a forward for the all-important second half of the campaign.

In other Leeds transfer news, fans have called for this Premier League goal machine to sign for the club in January.
