Leeds fans expressed their delight on Twitter with goalkeeper Marco Silvestri – after he saved three penalties in their League Cup penalty shootout win against Norwich.

The fourth round tie on Tuesday night finished 2-2 after extra time as from Alex Pritchard and Nelson Oliveira were cancelled out by Leeds strikes from Marcus Antonsson and substitute Chris Wood.

In the shootout, Matt Grimes and Kalvin Phillips missed their spot-kicks for Leeds but Silvestri pulled off three heroic saves from Pritchard, Steven Naismith and Robbie Brady.

The triumph secures Leeds progression into the quarter finals of the EFL Cup and vindicated manager Garry Monk’s decision to make eight changes to his starting line-up.

Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight at Italian goalkeeper Silvestri’s heroics, with many claiming that Monk now has a selection headache on his hands.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The former Cagliari and Chievo goalkeeper has been made to wait for his chance in between the Elland Road sticks this season, following the signing of ex-England international Rob Green.

A controversial figure, Silvestri was one of the six players to claim they were too ill to play against Charlton in April 2015, before deleting his Twitter account this year after seeming to like a tweet supporting the dismissal of Monk.

In other Leeds news, fans have reacted to the performance of out-of-favour forward Souleymane Doukara.
