Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to urge Garry Monk to start Matt Grimes in midfield against Reading on Tuesday night.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who is on a season-long loan from Monk’s former club Swansea, has been a bit-part player at Elland Road this season.

Grimes has started only one of Leeds’ 20 league matches this season and has made a total of just nine appearances in all competitions spread across 361 minutes of action.

With Eunan O’Kane and Pablo Hernandez still not recovered from injury, and Kalvin Phillips serving a one-match suspension, Monk is short of options in central midfield for the clash against Jaap Stam’s high flying team.

Liam Bridcutt is fit again after a three-month absence with a fractured foot but is not match fit after such a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

A section of the Leeds fan base believe Monk should pair regular midfielder Ronaldo Vieira with Grimes against Reading.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Leeds are sixth in the table going into Tuesday’s clash at Elland Road, while Reading are third after defeating fellow promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at the weekend.

Monk’s side could potentially climb if they beat Reading and other results go their way.

In other Leeds team news, these are the first two signings that incoming new owner Andrea Radrizzani will make in the January transfer window.
