Leeds star Eunan O’Kane has a tough fight on his hands as he looks to feature for Ireland against Austria.

Martin O’Neill’s side are set to do battle with Austria on Saturday, as they look to go top of their group in the 2018 World Cup qualifying phase.

However, O’Kane is set to rival an abundance of midfield stars from across the Premier League and Championship, as he looks to feature against Austria.

Ireland released O’Neill’s squad on their official Twitter account, and the Ireland boss has decided to pick 13 midfielders in his 28-man squad.

Alongside O’Kane in central midfield, Jeff Hendrick, Glenn Whelan, Harry Arter, David Meyler, Stephen Gleeson and Wes Hoolahan are looking to feature for their country.

Everton star James McCarthy was also set to rival O’Kane for a starting spot, but has withdrawn with a hamstring injury.

The 26-year-old midfielder has been one of the first names on Garry Monk’s team sheet at Elland Road since his summer move from Premier League outfit Bournemouth in the summer.

O’Kane has overseen Leeds incredible run of form, with Saturday’s 3-2 triumph against Norwich their ninth win in 12 league and cup encounters.

Alongside youngster Kalvin Phillips, the Yorkshire giants have propelled themselves up the Championship table into a playoff place.
