Massimo Cellino is set to re-appoint Nicola Salerno as Leeds sporting director for a second time, according to a report.

An Italian outlet alfredopedulla claim Salerno is set to terminate his contract at Premier League side Watford with a view of returning to Elland Road.

It is being reported that the controversial figure who left Elland Road last year has already drawn up a contract with the Leeds owner and that his departure from Watford is expected to be announced on Wednesday.

Salerno has worked with his Italian compatriot Cellino at both Cagliari and then Leeds ,where he made numerous headlines for questionable recruitment including the suspension of Neil Redfearn’s assistant Steve Thompson during their time at Elland Road.

During his time at Leeds, Salerno was behind the transfers of up to 15 players, many of who were signed from overseas, including the likes of defender Sol Bamba from Italian side Palermo.

The 59-year-old has a year left on his Watford contract, but that is set to be terminated by mutual consent.

It is said that Cellino is looking to add to his recruitment team this summer, following the appointment of new manager Garry Monk.
