Liam Cooper has claimed that Leeds United weren’t at their best during the win against Birmingham and said he was “hopeful” he would recover in time for the weekend.

The Whites earned a hard-fought victory on Tuesday night in the Championship as goals from Samu Saiz and Stuart Dallas secured the three points.

Cooper has been a key player under Thomas Christiansen this season, but was forced off through injury in the 69th minute.

The 26-year-old has formed a brilliant partnership alongside Pontus Jansson at centre-back and they have helped Leeds keep six consecutive clean sheets in the league.

Christiansen’s side moved to the top of the league with the home win over Birmingham and now turn their attention to a trip to Millwall on Saturday.

Cooper feels his side hard to work hard for the three points against Harry Redknapp’s side and revealed that he hopes his injury doesn’t prevent him playing at the weekend.

“Not at our best last night but we grinder it out against a good Birmingham team. Hopefully the injury settles down for the weekend,” Cooper wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Cooper spent much of last season as a back-up option to Jansson and Kyle Bartley in the side, but he is enjoying much more time in the starting XI this year.

The Leeds captain has thrived since the arrival of the new manager and is a key component of the Championship’s most formidable defence so far.
