Divock Origi has insisted “it will be a war” at Goodison Park as Liverpool face Everton in the first Merseyside derby of the season.

The 21-year-old ace is expected to lead the line for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on Monday night, as he continues to fill the void left by injured playmaker Philippe Coutinho.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Belgium international is ready to battle his side’s bitter rivals as the Reds look to secure their 11th Premier League win of the season.

“It will be a war,” said Origi.  “We go there in a very positive way.

“You want to win this game, you know it will not be easy, it is a derby so it will be special and a very big and important game for us as a club. We have to prepare for it well.”

Liverpool’s number 27 has been in spectacular form in recent games after coming into the side, with five goals in the same amount of games against the likes of West Ham, Sunderland and Leeds.

Alongside Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, Klopp will be hoping his on-fire attack will put Ronald Koeman’s side to the sword.

Liverpool are currently 12 games unbeaten against their Merseyside rivals in all competitions, with the Toffees last tasting victory against their enemies in October 2010.

The Reds have won five games and drawn seven during that time, and another victory will see Origi’s side leapfrog Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City into second and six points behind Chelsea.

Since his move to Anfield in 2014, Origi has made just 50 appearances for Liverpool after spending his first season back on loan with Lille.

During his half century of games, the attacker has scored 17 goals and provided four more in assists.
