Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has won the Premier League goal of the month for September.
Henderson, 26, scored a phenomenal strike against Chelsea which was curled into the top corner past a helpless Thibaut Courtois.
The Reds won the match 2-1 at Stamford Bridge and Henderson’s goal was voted the best of the month across the league, the club announced on their official Twitter account.
Henderson is not well known for his goal scoring exploits and that remains his only goal of the season to date.
The central midfielder has been in impressive form and helped Liverpool be regarded as serious title contenders.
His performances even earned him the England captaincy during the international break, as Wayne Rooney was restricted to the bench by caretaker manager Gareth Southgate.
Henderson has become a crucial player at Anfield and had the difficult task of following club legend Steven Gerrard as captain.
Gerrard is well remember for his long distance strikes and Henderson’s against Chelsea would rank up there with the best.
Henderson has forged a strong partnership alongside Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana in midfield, with the trio matching Jurgen Klopp’s high intensity philosophy.
Liverpool face Manchester United on Monday in the Premier League and Henderson will be hopeful of grabbing his second goal of the season.
He has scored 23 goals in 221 appearances for the club and will want to add more goals to his game.
In other Liverpool news, Jan Molby believes that this fringe player should be handed a starting role for the club.
