Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed he will take just two academy stars on the club’s pre-season tour to America.
The Reds have already shown off their incredible pool of young talent in their first three pre-season games in England with Ovie Ejaria and Ben Woodburn both playing starting roles in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Wigan.
The win over the Lactis followed an already impressive start to their warm-up fixtures after a ruthless finish from the returning Danny Ings gave Klopp’s side a 1-0 against Tranmere, before following that up with a 5-0 win against Fleetwood Town five days ago.
“I think we’ll take two of them, but no final decision,” Klopp told the Liverpool website.
“It’s not about taking them. I think in the last few years in England it’s always a lot of youngsters in pre-season and everyone is excited about how good they are, then you never hear something about them.
“I don’t want to do it like this – 100 per cent not. That’s what we do. It’s not about America.”
Liverpool will complete the first part of their tour against Huddersfield Town before flying to the United States on Thursday to take on Chelsea and AC Milan in the International Champions Cup.
A friendly game against AS Roma will follow before playing Barcelona at Wembley Stadium August 6.
The tour will come to a close just 24 hours later as the Reds travel on to Germany to play FSV Mainz 05.
In other Liverpool news, the Reds are close to wrapping up three new signings, according to a reliable Merseyside journalist.
