Liverpool ace Lucas Leiva has emerged as a target for Italian club Inter Milan, according to a report.
The Mirror claim that Inter have made an enquiry for the 29-year-old and are looking to capitalise on his lack of game time this season.
The report details that the Serie A club tried to sign Lucas last summer and are now offering £4million for his signature.
Lucas has made 11 appearances for Liverpool this season, but is considered a squad player by manager Jurgen Klopp.
The Brazilian has been a defensive midfielder for the majority of his career and has been transformed into a ball playing centre-back this campaign.
The versatile player has become a big fan favourite at Anfield in recent years since he joined in 2007.
Lucas swooped the club’s Player of the Year awkward in the 2010/11 season for his consistent performances.
He has gone on to make 326 appearances for the Merseyside club and won the League Cup in the 2011/12 campaign.
Lucas is currently the fourth-choice option at centre-back and provides defensive cover behind Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan.
The experienced player is unlikely to rediscover his place in midfield as Klopp has several talented stars vying for a position.
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and Germany international Emre Can often provide the defensive cover in midfield, something that Lucas has done so well for years.
Football Insider verdict:
Liverpool should ignore bids for their experienced campaigner Lucas Leiva, who could prove crucial in the title run-in. The Reds are trying to compete for the Premier League title and will need the wise head of Lucas during the course of the season. He has already filled in well when required and is a player that Jurgen Klopp can rely on. Liverpool are still awaiting the full return of youngster Joe Gomez from a long-term injury lay-out and should not risk him back into the first team. Lucas still brings great versatility to the squad and is capable of playing in defence or midfield. At 29, Lucas should still be enjoying the best days of his career and can still be a vital component of Liverpool’s season.
In other Liverpool transfer news, the club are planning a January bid for a Brazilian attacker.
