Liverpool’s out-of-favour defender, Martin Skrtel has passed a medical at Fenerbahce ahead of his proposed move to the Turkish giants.

Football Insider last week reported that the no-nonsense centre-back had agreed a £5 million switch from England to Turkey.

Fenerbahce posted pictures on their official Twitter account of the 31-year-old giving a thumbs up as he undertakes a medical at the club.

If a deal does go through then Skertel will become the sixth confirmed signing to depart from Anfield, after manager Jurgen Klopp revealed he is preparing to trim the squad.

The experienced defender has been with the Merseyside club since 2008 and is set to join the team who finished as the runners up of the Turkish league last season.

Skrtel has picked up an English League Cup medal during his Anfield career and was instrumental in the cup final, as he scored an equalising goal before Liverpool went on to triumph on penalties over Championship side Cardiff City.

Despite signing a new contract for the Reds in January 2015, the hard hitting defender is set to depart England after eight years.

The five-time European Champions finished a disappointing eighth last season conceding 50 goals in the process- Klopp has since brought in Joel Matip from Schalke and has highly talented Joe Gomez returning to the Liverpool backline.
