Liverpool have joined the race to sign highly-rated Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney, Football Insider sources understand.

The Merseysiders are ready to pay between £5million and £10million this summer for someone to compete with first-choice Alberto Moreno on the left side of the defence.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that teenager Tierney has been added to a shortlist that includes Leicester’s Ben Chilwell, Lorient’s Raphael Guerreiro, PSV Eindhoven’s Jetro Willems and Cologne’s Jonas Hector.

Tierney, 18, has enjoyed a whirlwind year in which he has made 27 appearances for the Scottish Premiership leaders and been handed a Scotland call-up.

He made his full Scotland debut against Denmark on Tuesday at Hampden despite never having pulled on a dark blue jersey for the Under-21s.

The teenager has already been linked with a lucrative move to Southampton and now Liverpool are keeping close tabs on him.

Celtic manager Ronny Deila is adamant the youngster is going nowhere this summer but is convinced that Tierney can one day roll back the years by treading the same path as Scotland all-time greats to one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Asked if he could one day have his pick of destinations, the Celtic manager, as quoted by the Daily Mail, replied: “Of course he can. (Lionel) Messi can come from Scotland. But there is maybe going to be one (of his ilk) in a hundred years.

Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell is on the radar of Arsenal

Blue-eyed boy: Chilwell is being monitored by the elite clubs

“Kenny Dalglish had a big, big career before. It’s true that was 30 years ago, but Zlatan (Ibrahimovic) is coming from Sweden. So it’s possible.

“KT can go all the way. He can play at the highest level if he continues to develop. He needs to improve all the time and to do that he has to play.

“He has been playing here now consistently for seven months. He is in a very good situation now, playing for his national team and in Europe for a big club. What can be better?”

In other Liverpool transfer news, Klopp has already begun to look towards a summer revamp with his scouts checking out a potential £12million player.
