Liverpool fans on Twitter are debating whether Daniel Sturridge should start against Southampton on Saturday, despite not scoring in the Premier League this season.

The 27-year-old has started just four league games under Jurgen Klopp in the 2016-17 campaign and his only goals have come in the EFL Cup against Derby and Tottenham.

Sturridge has struggled to cement a regular position in the team following his successful 21-goal season in 2013-14 alongside Luis Suarez and has been plagued with injury.

The England international has been overlooked by Klopp for the majority of his Liverpool reign, with Roberto Firmino and even Divock Origi being given the nod ahead of Sturridge.

However, the striker scored against Scotland during England’s comfortable 3-0 victory and was rested for their draw against Spain so is fully fit for the league clash with Southampton.

Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino have returned to Liverpool off the back of a hectic travelling schedule with Brazil and Klopp may use the opportunity to rest his attacking stars, in favour of Sturridge.

Liverpool fans have adored Sturridge since his impressive 2013-14 campaign and many hope to see him handed a rare league start on Saturday.
