Wayne Rooney is on the bench for Manchester United as they take on Liverpool at Anfield – and fans on Twitter had no sympathy for the former Everton striker.
England international Rooney has been dropped to the bench for his last two league outings, with manager Jose Mourinho preferring the club’s academy graduate Marcus Rashford.
Mourinho has once again selected Rashford, with the teenager joined by Ander Herrera and Ashley Young in supporting spearhead Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Additionally Rooney was dropped to the substitutes bench for England’s previous World Cup qualifier against Slovenia.
The 30-year-old has struggled for form this season, scoring only one goal in seven league appearances.
Liverpool fans poked fun at Rooney’s recent misery on social media after the United team was announced.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

United have won the last four league meetings against the Merseyside club, most recently the 1-0 victory at Anfield in January.
The Reds are fourth in the league table going into this titanic fixture, with 16 points to their name, while United are sixth with 13 points.
A win for Liverpool could see them go level on points with Manchester City and Arsenal who are first and second, while a win for United will see them go level on points with their rivals.
In other Liverpool team news, supporters on Twitter backed Daniel Sturridge to score as he is named in the starting line-up to face Manchester United.
