Roberto Firmino is absent from Liverpool’s showdown against Chelsea on Friday night – and fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment.

The in-form Brazilian attacker has a minor groin injury and is not in the 18-man Merseysiders’ squad for the Stamford Bridge encounter.

Philippe Coutinho takes Firmino’s place in the team that hammered Leicester 4-1 last weekend, while fit-again Dejan Lovren replaces Lucas Leiva.

Firmino, who has started all four of Liverpool’s Premier League matches this season, scored two goals in the triumph over Leicester and would have been expected to have started at the Bridge if he was fit.

Supporters took to social media to express their dismay at the forward’s absence, with many admitting it was a big blow to the team and Jurgen Klopp’s high-pressing strategy.

However, others said they were excited at the prospect of a front four of Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge, Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana.

Here are a selection of the messages on Twitter:

Midfielder Emre Can is back in training after an ankle problem but is not yet match fit, and is once again not in the squad.

In other Liverpool team news, a defender has signed a two-year contract.
