Mamadou Sakho played the full match as Liverpool under-23s beat Huddersfield 3-0 in the Premier League Cup on Saturday afternoon – and fans on Twitter hailed his display.
The 26-year-old centre-back has not featured for the Reds this season after he was sent home from pre-season by manager Jurgen Klopp for breaking club rules.
Since then his future at Anfield has been in huge doubt with many national newspapers suggesting he could leave in the January transfer window.
One fan stated that he would more than happily see Southampton centre-half Virgil Van Dijk replace the Frenchman.
Nonetheless, Sakho helped the Merseyside club keep a clean sheet as goals from Brooks Lennon, Harry Wilson and Cameron Brannagan secured them an impressive victory.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Former Paris Saint-Germain defender Sakho made 34 Premier League, EFL Cup and Europa League appearances last term.
The majority of those games came under the stewardship of Klopp, who he helped reach the final of the Europa League with, before they were comfortably beaten by Sevilla.
In other Liverpool team news, Stan Collymore has predicted the Reds to be victorious against Watford on Sunday afternoon.
