Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring for England in their win against Malta on Sautday – and Liverpool fans were delighted on Twitter with his performance.

England picked up another three points with a 2-0 victory in the World Cup qualifier and Sturridge netted an important goal.

The Liverpool striker scored an impressive header which nestled in the bottom corner and his club team-mate Jordan Henderson picked up the assist.

England midfielder Dele Alli scored the other goal in the first-half and Gareth Southgate eased to a win in his first game in charge.

Sturridge, 27, fully justified his starting position after he was picked ahead of Marcus Rashford and Jamie Vardy to lead the line.

Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to his performance and one fan claimed that he is the best striker available to England.

Here are a selection of the messages:

Sturridge has struggled domestically this season and Roberto Firmino has been the preferred striker at Liverpool.

The England man has managed to score two goals from seven appearances but has been used as a substitute in four of them.

He does have an impressive record at Anfield and he has scored 56 goals in just 99 appearances for the Reds.

England face Slovenia on Tuesday in their next World Cup qualifier and Sturridge will hope to impress Liverpool.
