Jurgen Klopp revealed Danny Ings’ knee surgery was a positive one and he expects the injured striker to return to action for Liverpool.
The 24 year-old picked up a season-ending injury during the Reds’ 2-0 victory against Tottenham in the EFL Cup last month despite only just returning to action.
He was forced to undergo surgery on the opposite knee to the one he seriously injured last season and could face an even more challenging return this year.
The former Burnley striker missed almost the entire 2015-16 season due to an ACL injury and only returned for the final Premier League game of the campaign.
He has featured just three times for Klopp since the German joined the club in October 2015 but has become a fan favourite after demonstrating a willingness to fight for a place in the first team.
Ings has yet to feature in a Premier League fixture this season, though he did make two first team appearances in the EFL Cup before picking up his latest injury.
The forward is highly regarded by the Liverpool manager and was made captain on a number of occasions throughout the pre-season campaign.
Fans reacted with encouragement to the news his surgery went well and were quick to offer their support on social media as they hope to see him return soon.

In other Liverpool news, this is why criticism of this senior figure is no longer a thing under Klopp.
