Liverpool fans reacted with amusement on Twitter after it was revealed Joe Allen had been nominated for the UEFA Team of the Year.
The 40-man shortlist also included compatriots Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey after the three Welshmen were crucial to their country’s European Championships success in the summer.

The Stoke midfielder was sensational for Wales during the tournament and it was the country’s most successful international competition of all-time when they reached the semi-final.
Allen joined the Potters in the summer after he was sold by Liverpool for £13million despite his impressive performances for Wales.
The 26-year-old was a popular figure in Merseyside by the time of his departure, despite struggling to settle down during his first season at the club.
While at Liverpool, he spent the majority of his Anfield career being used as a substitute but he became increasingly regular during his final season.
In total, he made 132 appearances for the club, including just 60 Premier League starts in four years, but he was also used as a substitute during Liverpool’s Europa League final defeat against Sevilla in his final game.
Since joining Stoke, he has been in excellent form, netting four goals in 14 appearances already this season but most Liverpool fans remember his time with the club fondly and reacted to the news of his nomination with positivity.
