Joel Matip made his Premier League debut in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham – and Liverpool fans on Twitter were mightily impressed with the summer signing.
Liverpool drew 1-1 at White Hart Lane, with James Milner and Danny Rose scoring the goals in a contest dominated by the visitors.
Matip, 25, was making his competitive league debut for Liverpool after featuring in the 5-0 EFL Cup hammering of Burton midweek and looked assured alongside centre-back partner Dejan Lovren.
Milner gave Liverpool a first-half lead from the penalty spot after Erik Lamela fouled Roberto Firmino, and the England international slotted the ball in the bottom corner.
Defender Rose scored an equaliser in the second-half with a powerful shot when Simon Mignolet was helpless on the line.
The result leaves Liverpool with four points from their opening three Premier League fixtures, with their defeat coming last weekend against newly promoted Burnley.
Matip replaced the injured Ragnar Klavan in the Liverpool side and made a good impression on the club’s supporters.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Liking the look of Joel Matip. Seems to have a nice balance of aggression, composure, dirty work, playing the ball out.. #LFC
