Michael Oliver will take charge of Liverpool’s next Premier League fixture against Watford on Sunday and fans weren’t happy as they reacted on Twitter.

It is a surprising reaction given Liverpool have a 100% win rate in games in which the referee has taken charge of this season.

Oliver oversaw Liverpool’s opening day victory against Arsenal at the Emirates in August and he then took charge of the Reds’ 2-0 win over Swansea last month.

In total, Liverpool have scored six goals in the two games he’s overseen and Oliver has only ever given one red card to a Reds player and that was Fabio Borinio back in December 2014.

The referee seems to have some affiliation with Liverpool and Arsenal clashes, sending Borini off during a 2-2 draw against the Gunners and officiating the Reds’ 5-1 victory over Arsene Wenger’s side in the same year.

Liverpool fans have been quite vocal on the refereeing choices made this season and huge sparks were set off when Anthony Taylor was appointed as the official for their clash against Manchester United.

The 37 year-old is from Greater Manchester and Liverpool fans were worried his allegiances to United as a supporter would affect his judgement on the game.

In the end, there were no big mistakes from Taylor and Liverpool fans will be hoping Oliver is similarly neutral this Sunday despite their apparent dislike.

Here is a selection of the messages on Twitter:

In other Liverpool news, James Milner is set to return to the starting XI after recovering from the illness that kept him out of the clash against Crystal Palace.
