Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Simon Mignolet will start in goal for Liverpool against Tottenham in the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening – and fans have reacted well to the decision on Twitter.
Mignolet, 28, has not featured for the Reds since Loris Karius returned from a hand injury picked up in pre-season.
The Belgium international shot stopper had made six appearances beforehand in the new campaign, which saw him concede eight goals and keep just one clean sheet against Championship side Burton.
However, fans on social media now believe that it is an opportunity for Mignolet to prove his worth for the team, with some unsure about the capabilities of Karius.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:
I'll back Karius but I'd rather Mignolet between the sticks, LK looks a nervous wreck. SM looks a world beater in comparison so far #LFC ??️

Can't help but feel relieved that Mignolet will start against Spurs. Want to see whether Klopp decision to start Karius was justified #LFC

I'm good with Mignolet starting tomorrow, working hard in training. Hopefully competition helps him to improve. #lfc

He is expected to return to the side in Saturday evening’s clash against Crystal Palace with Liverpool currently in good form in the league.
They are sat in third place with 20 points from their first nine fixtures and sit level on points with league leaders Manchester City.
