Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that goalkeeper Simon Mignolet will return to the side for their EFL Cup clash with Leeds on Tuesday night – and fans on Twitter aren’t thrilled at the prospect.
Liverpool are expected to make a number of changes for the fixture, with a host of young stars set to showcase their talents, as Klopp looks to put his rotation policy to good use.
In his pre-match press conference on Monday, Klopp revealed that Mignolet was set to return in place of Loris Karius.
“If nothing happens, Simon will play. 100 per cent,” the Liverpool manager said, as quoted by the official Liverpool website.
The Belgian goalkeeper has been demoted to a backup role following the arrival of Karius in the summer. He has not featured in the Premier League since September 16.
The Anfield faithful reacted negatively to the recent news that Philippe Coutinho is set to miss seven games through injury, and are in no better mood ahead of Mignolet’s recall to the starting line-up.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
If you still think Simon Mignolet can be our number one, I suggest you re-watch Sevilla’s third goal in the Europa League final.

@MikLFC his distribution is pathetic in comparison to Karius as well. He gets the attack going so much quicker

This is not the first time that Mignolet has been criticised during his time at Anfield. His inconsistencies are telling in the fact that he is no longer the no.1 goalkeeper at the club.
Three seasons of repeated mistakes have caused frequent concern among fans, and it comes as little surprise that they are alarmed at the prospect of him returning to the starting XI.
Liverpool have lost just once in 11 games in all competitions, and new no.1 Karius has conceded just one goal from their three Premier League games this month.
In other Liverpool news, Karius remains upbeat over the injury to Coutinho, claiming Liverpool can still push on without him.
