Mamadou Sakho started for Liverpool’s Under-23s in the clash against Wolfsburg on Wednesday evening – and fans of the Reds took to Twitter to hail the defender’s performance.

Sakho, 26, was selected in the young squad having not featured for the Reds this season after being sent home by Jurgen Klopp while the club were in the U.S on a pre-season tour.

He was also handed a drugs ban towards the end of the last campaign, which saw him miss Liverpool’s Europa League final, as well as the summer’s European Championships in his home nation.

The centre-back also took to Snapchat on Saturday morning, before Liverpool were set to face Hull and bemoaned his treatment by the club.

Liverpool’s youngsters suffered a 2-1 defeat against their German counterparts.

However, Sakho played the full 90 minutes and impressed with many taking to social media to comment on his display.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

He moved to Anfield in 2013 from cash-rich Paris-Saint Germain in an £18million deal and he has four years left on his current deal.

The France international faces strong competition to return to the Liverpool back four with the summer additions of Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip alongside Dejan Lovren.

In other Liverpool team news, this regular player will return for the league clash against Swansea.
