Sturridge has made just 10 appearances for Liverpool in the new campaign, scoring four goals, all coming in the EFL Cup.
Club manager Jurgen Klopp has favoured Roberto Firmino as his attacking spearhead this season and it has brought huge success to the team as they currently sit in first place.
They will face Southampton at St Marys next, who are currently sat in 10th place under new manager Claude Puel.
Liverpool will be looking to avenge a 3-2 defeat suffered on the south coast last time out as the Saints battled back from two goals down in the second half.
