Brazilian outfit Gremio have told Liverpool that they are unwilling to negotiate with the Merseysiders over the transfer of playmaker Luan, according to a report.

The Brazil under-23 international has been linked with a move away from Gremio amid strong interest in the£18.4million-rated forward from Barcelona.

Spanish publication Sport claim that Gremio refused to hold negotiations with Liverpool and an un-named Italian club.

But Gremio could be more open to negotiations with Barcelona, as it is said that the Spanish club’s sporting director Robert Fernandez has maintained a dialogue with Luan’s representative.

However, any possible move for the player is now on hold as Luan prepares to participate in the Olympics for Brazil.

The attacker, who is predominantly a second striker but can also play on the left, has a contract at Arena do Gremio until September 2018.

Luan has held talks with Barcelona star Neymar about moving to the Spanish giants, as he looks to integrate himself into European football without a hitch.

Gremio’s number seven has an impressive scoring rate considering he isn’t an orthodox centre-forward, scoring 20 goals in all competitions in 90 Gremio appearances.

Luan may be tempted to move to Liverpool over Barcelona though, as he is hugely unlikely to be able to break his way past Barca’s front three of Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.

In other Liverpool transfer news, manager Jurgen Klopp has been given this answer as he looks to sign this Spanish star.
